EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR       

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to lead the National Gallery of Zimbabwe “NGZ” (one of the biggest Arts Institutions in Zimbabwe), for a position based in Harare. This is an executive leadership position reporting to the Board of Trustees and the relevant Ministry. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall guidance of the Galleries’ branches in Zimbabwe (currently in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare).

The Job
•    Providing leadership and strategic direction to the Gallery and ensuring the efficient execution of mandate and achievement of major goals.
•    Strengthening NGZ‘s professional and administrative capabilities.
•    Ensuring that NGZ develops accessible and engaging exhibitions and educational programmes that provide reflection and dialogue about Zimbabwean visual arts.
•    Hiring, training and evaluation of all other staff and service volunteers according to established policies.
•    Liaising between the Gallery’s Board, external stakeholders and staff.  The Director must communicate goals, policies and strategies of the Board in addition to protecting the interests of the Gallery’s collections, overseeing programming and staff.  The Director shall act as the bridge between the Board and staff members; as a result staff members channel their concerns to the Board through the Director.
•    Assist the Board to discharge its responsibilities as set out under the Act and in any other relevant instructions and guidance that may be issued from time to time by the Ministry and the Board.
•    Responsible for the development and implementation of NGZ’s Strategic and Business Plans, coordinates, and directs the operation of the NGZ which includes carrying out the policies and programmes as determined by the Board of Trustees; oversees Gallery operations including the collection, exhibits, asset maintenance and educational outreach, consults and advises on objects of art brought to the Gallery for analysis; and researches possible Gallery purchases.
•    Undertake business development, fundraising, stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
The candidate must be in possession of a minimum of the following:
•    A Degree in Fine Art; Archaeology and Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies; Creative Art and Design and any such relevant qualification.
•    An Advanced degree in an Art or Heritage Studies or a MBA qualification would be an added advantage
•    Minimum of 10 years’ experience at senior management level in an Art or Museum institution
•    A team player, highly skilled communicator with proven and outstanding negotiating skills.
•    A highly target driven self- starter and have proven leadership capacity and experience.
